Summary

Upcoming medical cities expected to drive the Omani medical device industry

As of 2021, Oman has 57 public healthcare and 45 private healthcare facilities including imaging centers. Oman has made significant advances in its healthcare infrastructure by constructing medical cities and complexes. In addition, the country is visualizing long-term goals by proposing the Health Vision 2050. Few of its objectives include expanding tertiary care by building medical cities, upgrading biomedical equipment, and specializing in primary healthcare. In addition, the Omani Council for Medical Specializations approved the National Electronic Platform for Health Education (Tbyan) initiative in mid-2018. This e-health platform will contribute to the process of education and remote medical training for doctors working in the Council, foreign doctors, and other healthcare professionals.

According to EMeRG’s new HospeTrack Hospital Intelligence for Oman, market opportunities for medical device manufacturers are noteworthy for the tertiary care segment. For example – Sultan Qaboos Medical City Complex (SQMCC) is an upcoming construction of 1.5 billion dollars in the coastal city of Barka. It is the country’s first medical city expected to be built under a PPP contract, envisioned to have five major hospitals with 2,000 beds, and a dedicated imaging center and laboratories. In addition, immediate growth opportunities are observed in the mammography market. With breast cancer being the most prevalent form of cancer in Oman, it continues to account for 15% of new cases each year. However, only 50-60% of the secondary and tertiary care hospitals currently have a mammography system.

The dataset will allow users to understand the medical infrastructure, medical equipment installed base, and departmental maturity. As per the HospeTrack report, tertiary care is expected to expand with the establishment of the International Medical City-Salalah, Aster Al Rafah Super Specialty Hospital in Muscat, along with five other hospitals. The growth in specialized care facilities offers opportunities for medical device manufacturers especially around advanced medical equipment such as diagnostic and imaging equipment.

The report provides account-level directional detail on total beds, ICU beds, ORs, as well as installed base for various medical devices such as Ventilators, Incubators, Anesthesia Machines, Dialysis machines, C-Arms, Cath Labs, PET, SPECT, CT, MRI scanners, Ultrasound, X-Ray machines, Mammography machines, DEXA, LINAC, PACS and EMR; making it the only source of hospital-level intelligence for Oman’s medical equipment and infrastructure.

The report is a skillfully designed dataset that is an invaluable resource for any organisation in the process of optimizing sales targets, estimating market potential, or developing an account management strategy in Oman. It provides a graphical overview of the country’s health infrastructure, as well as an account-level view of resources, directional information on medical device installed base, hospital demographics, and care services.

Key companies featured in the dataset include: GE Healthcare, Philips Healthcare, Siemens Healthineers, Hitachi Medical Systems, Hologic, Varian, Agfa Healthcare, Al- Shifa, HINAI Imagenet, Infolife, TrakCare
